See this lovely clean kitchen? It was not like this when I woke up this morning. Last night I cooked a lovely beef wellington and chocolate pie for friends. Two bottles of red wine and loads of giggles later, I was far too tired to clean up. So this morning I was greeted by an absolute disaster mess! I turned on the radio, started scrubbing (and singing) and unloaded and re-loaded the dishwasher. Then I heard it...
...David Bowie dead at 69.
I made myself a cup of tea, ate a croissant, sat on the sofa, and as the first line of Space Oddity entered my mind, I cried. Now there really is a star man waiting in the sky...RIP.
“Do not stand on my grave and weep;
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.”
-Mary Elizabeth Frye (1932)
