Free time is such an important part of a healthy lifestyle and personal well-being. Whenever I feel burnt out or irritable, it is most certainly because I am not resting enough. Can I just elaborate? When I say rest, I don't categorize all of that as sleep. Although, getting enough sleep is just as important. What I mean by rest is setting aside time from your day to just mellow out.
Finding that downtime can be really difficult when life seems so busy. When our schedules are full and we are constantly being beeped at, finding any sort of peace can seem impossible. These days, I am making it a priority to not only find downtime but to make it. I find myself feeling much more at ease after indulging in some "me time". So instead of checking my schedule to see when I can fit in some rest, I specifically make room for it. Because of that, I am able to function my best and give my best to my friends, family, and my work. When I am well-rested, I am more efficient, happy, and less stressed. I am definitely my best self when I come from a place of relaxation, compared to a place of fatigue.
How do I make free time? That's easy! I start by turning any electronic devices to "Do Not Disturb" mode. I make myself a cup of tea and sit down with a good book, I get outside and take the dogs for a walk, or I draw an extra fancy bubble bath and soak while listening to one of my favorite podcasts. There are so many other options, but these particular examples take my mind away from my everyday craziness. All I need is an hour and if you try hard enough, it's easier to make the time than you think!
