Well, it's here! The infamous day that officially kicks off Christmas shopping, Black Friday, and while a majority of folks will be up early and out participating today, there is one person that most certainly won't be -- me. I get why this day is so popular; it's the idea of snagging the best gifts for the very best price. Everyone heads out with good intentions, just to return home and find they've over-indulged or morphed into the Grinch. I've seen it happen.
One of my very first jobs was working in retail and that meant that no one was exempt from working the day after Thanksgiving. I've seen it all, the horrendous crowds, the running, the fighting (yes, fighting)... I made the decision that willingly participating in that mess just wasn't for me. That was before the haven of internet shopping!
So today I'm home in my PJs enjoying leftovers and planning a lovely dog walk. The Friday after Thanksgiving is another chance for me to take stock of all the wonderful things already in my life. If you are like me and chose home over the crowds here are a few self-care suggestions for you:
#OPTOUTSIDE whatever the weather, just wrap up and go!
Bring your duvet downstairs and snuggle up or go back to bed.
Unplug! It's what I plan on doing after I hit the "publish" button.
Watch the flame of a roaring fire. Don't have a fireplace? Play this video on your computer or TV.
Learn a new/waste free gift wrapping technique, like Furoshiki.
Make yourself that well deserved cup of coffee or tea. Enjoy!
